To spread awareness of conservation of petroleum products, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, GoI, is celebrating oil conservation fortnight from January 16 to 31, under the umbrella organisation Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA). During this programme, a mass awareness drive is conducted by oil companies, seeking citizens to participate in fuel conservation for health and environment.

A cyclothon under Saksham 2020 has been carried out in 200 cities across the country by the HPCL. As many as 500 participants took part in the drive, including BSF officials, students from BSF campus, Army personnel, biking clubs of Jalandhar, NCC cadets and students from various schools.

DIG BSF-l Madhu Sudan Sharma led the rally by riding a bicycle and shared the benefits of cycling with the participants.

The cyclothon in the city started from the BSF headquarters at 10 am. Before starting the rally, children were taken for a warm-up session by Aarti Rajput, a physical trainer by Udaan Dance Academy.

A ‘Saksham pledge’ was administered by BSF IG Mahipal Yadav before flagging off the rally. The cyclists pedalled 5 km across the city and culminated at the Jullundur Gymkhana Club. Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar applauded the efforts made by the participants and motivated them for other such activities. DIG (BSF) Madhu Sudan Sharma asserted that a small effort would lead to a significant contribution to society.

HPCL DGM, Jalandhar, Manoj Kumar exhorted all participants to become brand ambassadors of society to spread the green message. — TNS
