Jammu, December 13

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has decided to enhance the security of the Vaishno Devi shrine nestled in the Trikuta hills by installing additional CCTVs and material X-ray scanners.

A decision to this effect was taken during a meeting at the Spiritual Growth Centre in Katra on Thursday. A joint review meeting was organised by the shrine board and district administration, Reasi, to assess the security arrangements for pilgrimage to the cave shrine.

The overall security scenario of the shrine was discussed in the meeting, especially in view of the New Year rush that the shrine witnesses on December 31.

Besides, various long and short-term measures which were required to be taken for strengthening the security grid of the yatra routes and vital installations came up for discussion.

“It was decided that wherever required, additional CCTVs and more number of luggage as well as material X-ray scanners will be installed and other arrangements strengthened to enhance the vigil,” an official spokesperson of the board said.

The Reasi SSP gave a detailed presentation of the concerns of security agencies for a speedy response from the board.

The security agencies were promised by the board CEO of immediate action to meet their infrastructural requirements, especially in view of the added infrastructure like passenger ropeway system.
