A passenger from Punjab aboard a Chandigarh-Srinagar flight was detained at the Srinagar airport for raising a false alarm. “The flight has been hijacked,” he cried as the IndiGo flight landed at the Srinagar airport on Tuesday.
An alarmed cabin crew alerted the security manager and the passenger was detained at the airport by the anti-hijacking wing. He was then handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Sources said he told the police it was all a “joke”. Not amused, Budgam SSP Tejinder Singh said they were checking his credentials with the Punjab Police.
Lakhwinder Kumar, 32, from Amloh in Punjab, a mill employee, was on his way to Amarnath, said Akash Deep Mathur, Director, Airports Authority of India.
“There was an incident regarding a passenger not following the rules” an IndiGo spokesperson said.
