Vaishno Devi dispensary team felicitated for proactive response

Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Simrandeep Singh, on Friday awarded certificates of commendation to three medical officials posted at the Bhawan medical unit (dispensary) for their ‘outstanding’ handling of a rare medical condition in a young pilgrim on June 9.

The medical team comprising, medical officer Dr Rohit Bakshi, medical assistant Manish Padha, and nursing orderly Rajinder Singh, handled a rare condition called ‘Takayasu arteritis’, which requires a definite criteria for diagnosis.

On June 9, a male pilgrim, in his early 20s, came to the Bhawan dispensary with symptoms of severe chest pain with abdominal discomfort, back and joints pain and vomiting.

Since patient suffered from an acute discomfort, the team proceeded the treatment on the lines of auto-immune disease involving a blood vessel.

The patient responded very well to the line of treatment followed by the team and he was stabilised in 30-45 minutes.

Since this happened to be a rare condition and first such manifestation of symptoms in the patient, the team immediately got in touch with his parents, who were not travelling with him, and explained the diagnosis based on the symptoms.

The team got in touch with the shrine authorities and ensured safe return of the pilgrim to his home under active medical supervision. The pilgrim was travelling with his two other young friends.

The CEO visited the Bhawan medical unit on Friday and appreciated the maturity and responsiveness of the entire team led by Dr Bakshi.

He hoped that the medical staff would continue to provide excellent emergency services to the patients 24X7.

Pertinently, there was heavy rush on June 9, with nearly 42,000 people undertaking pilgrimage. The total number of pilgrims treated in the seven dispensaries of the shine was over 2,100 with the Bhawan dispensary alone handling 456 cases.
