Bathinda, December 12

A labourer, Jabar Singh (32), was killed after an official car of Civil Surgeon and CMO Amrik Singh Sandhu rammed into his motorcycle near the main gate of the Civil Hospital. The incident took place on Monday. The labourer suffered a serious head injury and was taken to a private hospital where during the treatment he died this morning.

The CMO was driving the government vehicle when the victim, along with his associate, was going to work on the motorcycle.

The victim is survived by his wife and three children. The body was taken to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem and the Civil Hospital police post was informed of the incident. The police have started a probe into the incident after recording the statement of the victim’s family members. It is also learnt that the two parties reached a compromise.

As per information, on December 9, the victim, a resident of Silver Colony, along with his associate, was going on his motorcycle and when they reached near the main gate of the Civil Hospital, the CMO, who was driving his official vehicle (CH-05 T 0871), rammed the rear of the motorcycle.

Jabar Singh fell off the motorcycle and was seriously injured. However, the CMO, along with the help of passersby, got the injured admitted to the emergency ward of the hospital. As he was seriously injured, he was referred to a private hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for the last three days and this morning he succumbed to his injuries.

Kin of the victim alleged that the police did not listen to them and tried to shield the CMO. They demanded that the victim’s family should be given a compensation of around Rs 10 lakh. They also warned that if their demand was not fulfilled, they would stage a protest by keeping the body on the road.

It is learnt that when the police started taking action in the case, both parties reached a compromise and the CMO assured that he would bear the entire treatment costs and provide an economic help to his family as well.

CMO Amrik Singh Sandhu said, “The victim was coming from the wrong side. The labourer tried to overtake his car and suddenly rammed into the car and got injured. He immediately took him to the hospital and got his treatment started. He has not done this accident deliberately.”
