After battling Covid-19, a 10-year-old boy has recovered from the ‘dreaded’ complication and got discharge after 14 days hospitalisation. He was admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital due to Covid recovery phase complication.
According to doctors, “The patient had come to the hospital with complaints of fever and breathing difficulties. At the time of admission, the patient was in shock and had a low blood pressure. During treatment, the patient developed respiratory (breathing) failure and needed high- level ventilator support and multiple medicines to maintain his blood pressure. The patient was extensively managed by a team of expert doctors.”
“Now, the child has recovered from the most dreaded complication. Presently, he has been discharged in stable condition,” doctors added.
Dr Siddharth Bhargava, Associate Professor, Department of Paediatrics, said, “This type of recovery complication called multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) occasionally arises in children and can become rapidly fatal if not recognised and treated in time.”
“Many children with this dreaded complication many initially develop abdominal symptoms like diarrhoea, stomachache and vomiting. Later, their BP can drop resulting in heart failure,” he added.
Professor of Medicine, Dr Rajesh Mahajan, said, “Children of all ages can fall ill due to Covid-19. But, most kids, who are infected typically, don’t fall sick like adults. Some might not show any symptoms at all. And there is a possibility for many children suffering from corona recovery problem, which needs intensive care and proper treatment.”
“There should be no delay in diagnosis. People don’t come to doctor until they face critical health issues. For early detection we should minimise the time gap so that required treatment can be given to Covid patients,” he added.
