3 travel agents booked for fraud

Officials at the Police Division No 2 have booked three travel agents of Amritsar, Jalandhar and Gurdaspur on the charges of committing a travel fraud and duping several residents of lakhs.

Officials at the Police Division No 2 have booked three travel agents of Amritsar, Jalandhar and Gurdaspur on the charges of committing a travel fraud and duping several residents of lakhs.

The accused have been identified as Ashish Gill of Batala district in Gurdaspur, Kunal Gill of Neela Mehal, Jalandhar, and Pankaj Khokhar of Amritsar.

Complainant Raman Handa of Ferozepur and others had stated to the police that the accused agents had opened an office at Royal Plaza, Cheema Chowk, where they misguided people on the pretext of sending them abroad on the basis of work permit.

After the people came to know about the ploy of the agents, they went to the office. However, the accused assured them that they would arrange work permit of Canada, failed to do so.

Despite repeated visits to the office, the agents were not giving any satisfactory reply about the hurdles that prevented work visa.

Later, the accused also refused to return the money of the complainants, the complainants said.

The police have registered a case under Section 420 of the IPC and Section 13 of the Prevention of Human Smuggling Act against the accused who are yet to be arrested.

Work visa bait
