Teams of the Health Department were today out searching for the contacts of Covid-19 patient from Gurdev Nagar. The teams visited the houses of nearly 70 people who were in contact with the patient and they were asked to go under self-quarantine. All contacts were asymptomatic.

Jalandhar-based woman admitted at CMCH tests positive

A 72-year-old patient from Jalandhar, who has been admitted to the special Covid-19 isolation ward at the CMCH, has tested positive. She came to the CMCH on March 21 with complaints of cough, fever and breathlessness since March 16. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and was isolated. She had no travel history. She is at present on medication treatment and required non-invasive ventilation. "Her son is accompanying her and he is already staying in quarantine ward. Today after his mother tested positive, his sample was taken and sent for testing," said the Civil Surgeon, Dr Bagga.

Meanwhile, the samples of all close contacts of the 55-year-old woman tested negative. The authorities, after checking the passport of the patient, have confirmed that she had no travel history. According to sources, no contact of the woman had travel history either.

Her husband and son, besides a driver, three servants and workers at her boutique and two physicians from the DMCH, who treated her and her family members, have tested negative and they have been discharged from isolation. The samples of nearly 18 close contacts of the patient were tested.

“All family members and other close contacts have tested negative and they have been discharged after verifying the records. We are again saying that the patient had no travel history. Now, the department is reaching out to the people who were in contact with her,” said the Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga.
