Ludhiana, September 6

Raising a question over the state government’s decision to recruit retired patwaris for filling vacant posts, Aam Aadmi Party’s Ludhiana district unit has demanded to increase regular posts of patwaris and not to recruit the retired ones again.

After handing over a memorandum, AAP leader Amandeep Singh Mohi said thousands of unemployed youth of the state were protesting every day to demand jobs. “Unemployed people from all walks of life were forced to come on streets in every nook and corner of the state, demanding jobs.”

Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal and Kulwant Singh Sidhu said the government should provide jobs to the unemployed youth of the state instead of recruiting retired patwaris.

He said at present, patwari’s posts were lying vacant in about 8,000 villages of Punjab due to which residents of villages were facing huge difficulties.

They said: “A few days ago the government had issued an advertisement for filling only 1,090 posts in this regard for which around 2.33 lakh persons from across the state had applied. The government has decided to recruit 1,766 retired patwaris by snatching the rights of the unemployed. The decision of the government was a big blow to lakhs of the unemployed youth.”

AAP leaders Navjot Singh Jarg, Suresh Goel and Harbhupinder Singh Dharod were among those others present.
