Agriculture Development Officers attend induction programme

LUDHIANA: Punjab Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (PAMETI) conducted an induction training of newly recruited officials of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Punjab, from December 3 to 8.

Punjab Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (PAMETI) conducted an induction training of newly recruited officials of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Punjab, from December 3 to 8. The training was attended by 71 participants.

HS Dhaliwal, director PAMETI, said the institute had been entrusted with the responsibility of training all newly recruited officials in the Department of Agriculture by the Punjab State Commission for Farmers and Farm Workers. He said the training content for the induction training has been divided into three modules. The first two batches of the trainees got trained in their first module. The objective was to make them aware of the functioning of their department, including their roles and responsibilities, so that they can perform their duties effectively.

The programme was inaugurated by JS Bains, director, Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Punjab. He explained the overall working and organisational structure of the department. BS Sidhu, commissioner agriculture, Punjab, sensitised the trainees about farmer suicides in the state and motivated them to be empathetic towards their families.

Ajayvir Singh Jakhar, chairman, Punjab State Commission for Farmers and Farm Workers, explained the role of the commission in framing policies for the welfare of farmers and farm workers. Joint directors of different sections of the department interacted with participants and explained them about different schemes/programmes being implemented in the state by their sections.

Exposure visits to Integrated Farming System (IFS) at PAU and BISA, Ludhiana, were conducted, where trainees were enlightened regarding the IFS model and conservation technologies, respectively.
