Ludhiana: An RTI activist sent a complaint to the Local Government Minister about the alleged violation of building bylaws at a multi-storey building of a hospital under construction at Sarabha Nagar. The complainant, Kuldeep Singh Khaira, has urged Local Government Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu to mark an inquiry into the matter. Head draftsman Raj Kumar said the building owner had paid the compounding fee to the civic body. “I have not received any copy of the complaint. I will look into the matter after getting a copy of the complaint,” he said. TNS

Four held for drinking in open

Ludhiana: Officials of the police division 3 nabbed four persons on the charges of drinking liquor in the open at Vaishno Devi Chowk. The accused have been identified as Anupreet Singh, a resident of Field Ganj, Shiv Chandar of UP, Tarun Khurana of Tajganj and Amrit Kumar of Purani Madhopuri. Investigating officer head constable Sethi Kumar said during routine patrolling, the accused were found consuming liquor after 11 pm on the road. A case under the Excise Act has been registered against the accused. TNS

14-yr-old girl goes missing 

Ludhiana: A 14-year-old girl went missing under mysterious circumstances. Her father Rajinderpal, a resident of the CMC Chowk area, said her daughter Kajal had gone to buy some household items from the market, but she did not return home. He suspected that her daughter could have been kept under wrongful confinement by some unknown persons. After registering a case, the police have launched a manhunt. TNS

2 held with 851 cases of liquor

Ludhiana: Officials from the police division no 6 nabbed two persons and recovered 851 cases of liquor from their possession. The accused have been identified as Shamsher Singh of Gurdaspur and Karamjit Singh of Jagraon. Investigating officer head constable Vinod Kumar said the police got a tip-off on Tuesday that some liquor smugglers were on way to Ludhiana to deliver the large consignment of illegal liquor. The police set up a naka outside Apollo Hospital, where two four-wheelers coming from Doraha side were stopped. During the checking of the vehicles, 851 cases of liquor were recovered. The recovered liquor was of various brands. The police said a case under the Excise Act had been registered against the accused and a probe had been launched to bust the supply racket. TNS

2 arrested with 70-gm heroin

Ludhiana: The Sadar police claimed to have nabbed two persons and recovered 70-gm heroin from their possession. The accused have been identified as Varinder Kumar of Satjot Nagar and Karan Chaudhary of New Baldev Nagar. Investigating officer ASI Ashwani Kumar said secret information was received that the accused were drug smugglers and they were roaming in Ludhiana to deliver a consignment of drugs. A naka was laid at Sua Road. The accused on a bike were stopped. During search, the drug was recovered. The police said criminal record of the accused was being checked and their mobile details would also be examined to nab their associates. TNS
