A local senior citizen, entrepreneur Kewal Chand Garg Engine Wale, is the proud winner of the first prize of Rs 2 crore of the Punjab State Dear Diwali Bumper lottery.
The family led by him, having achieved heights in manufacturing and trading of agricultural implements under the banner of Raja Enterprises, has decided to use the major sum of the amount on charity and education of poor in the memory of his deceased wife Pushpa Devi who dedicated her life for primary education at the local MGMN Senior Secondary School.
Kewal Chand Garg (70) had bought the lottery ticket (bearing number A 689984) when he was sitting in his shop at Chaura Bazaar this afternoon, hours before the declaration of the lottery results.
The family came to know about the same in the evening when a lottery seller called on the mobile phone of the elderly man.
Overwhelmed, septuagenarian Garg expressed his desire to fulfill wishes of his sons and grandchildren who wanted that the initiative of supporting education of poor children, started earlier in the memory of their mother should be continued more generously, with the major sum of the winning amount.
“As the Almighty has already blessed our family with all fortunes of life, we wish to appropriate substantial amount of the lottery money for the cause of social service, focusing mainly on education of poor children,” said Kewal Krishan.
