Ludhiana, October 25

Jalandhar secured 34 points while Patiala accumulated 30 points to win the overall team championship in the boys and girls sections, respectively, in the 42nd edition of the Sub-Junior and Cadet Punjab State Judo Championship held at International Public School, Sandhu Nagar, near the Civil City here on Sunday.

In the sub-junior boys’ category, Gurdaspur scored 19 points and Fazilka with 9 points, finished at second and third spots, respectively.

In the sub-junior girls’ section, Hoshiarpur gathered 16 points to secure the second position and Tarn Taran (12 points) followed them at the third place.

In the girls’ cadet group, Hoshiarpur stamped its supremacy as they collected 18 points to come out as overall champions. The second and third positions were bagged by Jalandhar (17 points) and Ludhiana (14 points), respectively.

Around 500 participants from across over the state battled it out during the three-day championship. Partap Singh Bajwa, MP and president, Judo Federation of India, was the chief guest during the prize distribution function. Sukhwinder Singh Bindra, Chairman, Punjab Youth Development Board, was the guest of honour on the occasion.

Rajinder Sharma, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Sanjay Sharma, Rajwinder Singh, Bikram Partap Singh Bajwa and coaches, besides parents of the players, were among others present.
