To educate farmers about the ill-effects of burning of wheat straw during the rabi season, Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal today released four jingles. These jingles have been prepared jointly by the experts of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, and Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB).

Agrawal said the district administration had been continuously making dedicated efforts for educating farmers about ill-effects of burning of the wheat straw. He said it was due to these efforts that as compared to the last two years, the number of fire incidents till May 21 had decreased. He said these fire incidents were decreasing with each passing year.

He said the total number of fire incidents were 730 till May 21, 2018, followed by 717 till May 21, 2019, and till May 21, 2020, the fire incidents have gone down to 648. He said this has been possible because all the stakeholders have been working hard to bring down the fire incidents.
