Ludhiana, Patiala wings emerge champs in basketball tourney

LUDHIANA: The Ludhiana wing and Patiala wing faced a little challenge from their respective opponents before emerging champions in the boys U-17 and U-19 categories, respectively, in the 64th Punjab State Inter-District Schools Basketball Tournament which concluded at Guru Nanak Stadium here on Wednesday.

Ludhiana, November 14

The Ludhiana wing and Patiala wing faced a little challenge from their respective opponents before emerging champions in the boys U-17 and U-19 categories, respectively, in the 64th Punjab State Inter-District Schools Basketball Tournament which concluded at Guru Nanak Stadium here on Wednesday.

In the final (U-17), the Ludhiana wing got the better of the Patiala wing whom they outnumbered 63-31 to lift the winners’ trophy.

However, in the U-19 category, the Patiala wing scored 42-20 victory over the Ludhiana Basketball Academy (LBA) to clinch the title.

Earlier, in the semi-finals (U-17), the Patiala wing defeated Bathinda 52-39 and the Ludhiana wing outperformed Ludhiana district 62-26 to storm into the final. Similarly, in the U-19 section, the Patiala wing toiled hard to edge out PIS, Mohali, 79-77 and the LBA survived a scare against the Ghuda wing before coming out winners 88-78 to set up the title clash.

In the matches to decide third places, Ludhiana district beat Bathinda district 75-56 in the U-17 groups while in the U-19 category, PIS, Mohali, overwhelmed the Ghuda wing 51-12.
