In the biggest jump in the number of Covid cases, 39 tested positive in the district today. One more patient succumbed, taking the death toll to 12. The deceased was a 72-year-old ex-serviceman from Mansuran village. He was admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital on Sunday.

The Medical Superintendent of DMCH, Dr Ashwani Chaudhary, said the patient was on ventilator and also had other conditions. He was a diabetic and had coronary artery disease.

The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, confirmed the Covid patient’s death at the DMCH.

Meanwhile, the district witnessed the biggest spike in Covid cases in a day with 39 persons testing positive. Maximum number of 10 cases has been reported from a “vehra” located at New Janta Nagar. They all are the contacts of a Covid patient from the vehra.

2 thieves found infected, 14 cops sent to quarantine

Two ATM thieves tested positive for Covid after which 14 policemen, including the in charge of the police station, were sent to quarantine. Besides, two more criminals, one a resident of Vijay Nagar and the other from Ambedkar Nagar, who were arrested by the Division Number 2 police, tested positive. One is a drug peddler and the other was involved in a motorbike theft. Eight policemen who arrested them have been quarantined.

A 36-year-old undertrial from Dhaba also tested positive. Six TB patients from Tibba Road, Jamalpur, Adarsh Colony, Ghas Mandi, Giaspura and Sherpur were found infected.

Three patients suffering from influenza-like Illness also tested positive. They are from Haibowal, Hargoind Nagar and Payal.

Five persons tested positive from the containment zone of Habib Ganj and they all are contacts a Covid patient.

Migrant worker tests positive

A 40-year-old migrant worker from Bihar, at present quarantined in Bohapur village (Machhiwara), tested positive. Two persons from Delhi and two from Pathankot admitted to SPS Hospital also tested positive. Besides, a man from Ferozepur tested positive in a local hospital.
