Ludhiana, December 7
The Police Division 5 booked a man for cheating a private bus service employee by impersonating as a Punjab Police cop.
The accused has been identified as Hardeep Singh, resident of Raikot.
Complainant Harcharanjit Singh said he is a private bus service employee. About seven months back, he met the Hardeep Singh, who introduced himself as an ASI posted in the Ludhiana Commissionerate. Hardeep used to come to the bus stand and meet him.
“Recently when I met Hardeep Singh, he told me that he has now got posted in the Ludhiana Traffic Police Department and he can get any work done in the department. He asked me to give Rs 5,000 as he forgot his wallet at home and he assured to return the same in a few days. I, too, considering him a policeman, gave him money,” revealed the complainant.
“After borrowing money, Hardeep stopped responding to my phone calls. Suspected something fishy, I also enquired from some traffic cops about him but no one knew him, the complainant added.
The victim. Harcharanjit Singh, said he then informed the police and got a case of cheating and impersonation registered against Hardeep yesterday.
Investigation officer ASI Mewa Singh said raids are being conducted on the suspected whereabouts of the accused.
