The mortal remains of Agniveer Ajai Singh, who was killed in a landmine blast in the Naushera Sector of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, are yet to reach his native Ramgarh Sardaran village in Ludhiana district.

The family has been told that the body would arrive on Saturday morning and the cremation would take place with state honours in the afternoon. Officials from the administration and leaders of political parties continued visiting the family to express their condolences.

CM Mann expressed grief at the martyrdom of the Agniveer and extended sympathies to the bereaved family with an official statement issued by the administration. “The martyr displayed utmost dedication towards his duty and the supreme sacrifice will inspire the youth of Punjab towards patriotism,” the CM was quoted, in a statement by the administration. Ajai was the only son in the family and brother to six sisters. The state government will extend financial assistance to them, said the CM.

“We have been in touch with the family since we received the news of the martyrdom. Besides, assuring all help at this time we conveyed the message received from CM Bhagwant Singh Mann,” said Dr Poonampreet Kaur adding that she was regularly in touch with the CM’s office. Referring to the information received from sources in the Military, Dr Poonampreet Kaur said the body of the martyr is expected to arrive early in the morning on Saturday.

Khanna SSP Amneet Kondal and DSP Garg would oversee security arrangements during the funeral procession on Saturday.
