Pramila, Arnam hog limelight in badminton tourney

LUDHIANA: Pramila and Arnam Jain hogged limelight in the girls’ and boys’ sections, respectively, scripting victories in the knock-out stage on the second day of the Junior Ludhiana District Badminton Tournament being held at Shastri Hall near Guru Nanak Stadium, here on Sunday.

Pramila and Arnam Jain hogged limelight in the girls’ and boys’ sections, respectively, scripting victories in the knock-out stage on the second day of the Junior Ludhiana District Badminton Tournament being held at Shastri Hall near Guru Nanak Stadium, here on Sunday.

Pramila came out triumphant to secure a berth in the final in girls’ singles (U-17 and U-19) categories. In the semifinal (U-17), she warded off a stiff competition from Sant Kaur before wrapping it up (22-20, 21-19). In the U-19 section, Pramila again had to fight it tooth and nail to pip Sant Kaur (20-22, 22-20 and 23-21) to confirm her berth in the title clash.

Arnam secured a place in the last-four stage in the boys’ singles U-17 and 19 sections, besides in boys’ doubles U-19 group, whereas Pramila was at the centrestage making it to the semifinals in the girls’ singles U-17 as well as U-19 categories.

In boys’ singles quarterfinals (U-17), Arnam Jain proved too good for Pranshu Madaan, whom he defeated in straight sets (21-7 and 21-7) to storm into the semifinal and then in the U-19 category, he outclassed Pranav Makkar (21-16, 21-10) to assure himself a place in the semifinal.

Continuing with his winning streak, Arnam, pairing with Lakshay Sharma got the better of Swastik and Harshdeep (21-16, 21-12) to cement his place in the semifinal in the boys’ doubles section in the U-19 section.
