Ludhiana, December 7

Residents and some panchayat members staged a protest against the MLA from the Gill constituency and the sarpanch concerned for allegedly failing to pay any attention towards the dilapidated condition of Balloke Road here.

Residents of Gautam Nagar, Green Avenue and Ram Nagar participated in the protest. These areas fall outside the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation.

Angrej Singh Pandher, a protester, alleged that Congress MLA Kuldeep Singh Vaid had made a promise with people that development works would be ensured in Balloke and nearby areas but nothing was done.

He alleged that the MLA and the sarpanch concerned had failed to pay any attention to the dilapidated condition of the main road. Road mishaps were common due to potholes on the stretch.

The angry residents said they would boycott the MLA in the upcoming elections if required steps were not taken to reconstruct the road at the earliest.

They said the road layer had started coming off after a short period when it was reconstructed in

the past, adding that its condition turned worse during rainy days.

A businessman, Rahul, said some vehicles had got stuck in deep potholes too. He demanded that the road should be reconstructed at the earliest.

Paramjit Dua, the sarpanch, said the road was to be constructed by the Punjab Mandi Board and the estimate for the same had been prepared.

He said the MLA had assured that the work would be started soon.

Meanwhile, MLA Kuldeep Singh Vaid assured that the road would be reconstructed soon. He said some areas fall under the MC from Hambran Road up to the drain and other areas fall in the Gill constituency.

He said the tendering process for reconstruction of Balloke Road would be completed soon and then the road work would be done before the elections. Vaid said he had got most of the roads recarpeted/reconstructed in the constituency and work on remaining few roads, including Balloke Road, would be done soon.
