Two persons lost their lives in road mishaps in the district.

The first incident reported at Kailash Nagar, near Jodhewal Chowk, where a pedestrian was hit by a rashly driven unknown vehicle. Complainant Dilbag Singh of Giaspura told the police that on August 29 night, he was returning home and when he reached Kailash Nagar, he saw an unknown vehicle hitting a pedestrian.

After the accident, the driver did not stop his vehicle to take the victim to hospital and fled the spot. People rushed the victim to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday evening.

ASI Jasvir Singh said a case of negligent driving was registered against the accused and CCTV cameras were being checked to get any clue about him.

In another incident, a cyclist was killed in a hit-and-run case in Jagraon.

Complainant Tarsem Singh of Jagraon told the police that on August 31, his father was going on his bicycle to a gurdwara. On the way, an unknown rashly driven vehicle rammed into his bicycle.

After the accident, people rushed his father to the Civil Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. ASI Anwar Masih said a probe was on to trace the errant driver.
