‘India, B’desh to approve Teesta water pact soon’

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today said all problems related to the signing of Teesta water sharing agreement with Bangladesh had been resolved and it would soon be approved.

“Both countries will give their approval to it very soon. We are hopeful that we will get full cooperation from the West Bengal Government,” Singh said at a press meet here.

The Home Minister’s statement came ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Dhaka. On the Land Boundary Agreement between the two countries, Singh said: “The land boundary issue was stuck for 40 years. Now the decision has been taken.” He ruled out any possibilities of abrogating Article 370 of the Constitution in Kashmir. “Kashmir is an integral part of the country and there is no room for any political party or separatist group for raising any anti-India slogans there,” he said.

He denied that the Centre was directing the CBI or any other central investigating agency in any inquiries. He said the CBI inquiry into the Saradha scam had been progressing under the direction of the Supreme Court and the Centre had no role to play in it.

He also criticised the law and order situation in West Bengal saying it needed to improve and reports of crude bombs being made in the state was a matter of “serious concern”.
