New Delhi, November 18
Plans to celebrate the Constitution Day in a big way are afoot with the Lok Sabha scheduling to hold its regular Conference of Presiding Officers on November 25 and November 26 at Kevadia, Gujarat. The event is to be graced by President, Vice-President, Prime Minister and a few other Constitutional heads.
The 80th edition of the Conference should be unique since it is not usual for the President and the Vice-President to attend the event. The two-day event would conclude on November 26, the day that is now celebrated as the Constitution Day. It will be for the fourth time that Gujarat would host the event and the first at Kevadia, near Narmada Dam close to the Statute of Unity. The state hosted the event for the first time in 1955, then 1973, 1996 and 2016 at Gandhinagar.
In 2015, the Modi-led NDA government declared November 26 would be henceforth celebrated as the Constitution Day. Earlier, to commemorate the day on which the Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly in 1949 was known as the National Law Day. The Conference was first held in 1921. — TNS
