New Delhi, June 11
India, on Thursday, said a series of diplomatic and military engagements with China have underlined the need to arrive at an early resolution of the disputes on the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
In recent weeks, India and China have maintained communications through established diplomatic and military channels to address the situation in areas along the India-China border.
A meeting was held between the Corps Commander based in Leh and the Chinese Commander on June 6 in the Chushul-Moldo region, in which both sides agreed to peacefully resolve the situation.
They also noted the agreement between the leaders that peace and tranquillity along the LAC were essential for the overall development of the bilateral relations, said the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Anurag Shrivastav.
The Chinese Foreign Office had also spoken on the issue, on Wednesday, during which it suggested that an agreement had been reached on properly handling the situation in the west section of the China-India boundary. The MEA spokesperson, however, did not mention any such agreement.
The Chinese side had also claimed that the two sides were taking action in line with the agreement to ameliorate the border situation.
A day before the army commanders’ meeting, diplomats from both sides had engaged through video conference. Joint Secretary (East Asia) Naveen Srivastava and Director-General in the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Wu Jianghao reviewed the state of the bilateral relations, including the current developments.
In this context, they recalled the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, that peaceful, stable and balanced relations between India and China would be a positive factor for stability in the current global situation.
The two diplomats agreed to handle their differences through peaceful discussions while respecting each other's sensitivities, concerns and aspirations.
