Under attack from the Congress party over an alleged "illegal bar" being run in Goa by her daughter, Union minister Smriti Irani today hit back saying her 18-year-old's only fault was that her mother holds press conferences to "expose the loot of Rs 5,000 crore by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case".
Rejecting all allegations, Irani also dared Rahul Gandhi to fight fro the Amethi Lok Sabha seat again in 2024.
"I promise he will lose again," she said.
Irani said she will seek answers "in the court of law, and the court of people".
Congress "assassinated" and "publicly mutilated" her daughter's character, Irani said in a hard-hitting press conference, daring the rival party to show proof of any wrongdoing.
Asserting that her daughter was a first-year college student and does not run any bar, she said "an 18-year child's character is being assassinated by Congressmen. Her only fault is that her mother fought elections against Rahul Gandhi from Amethi in 2014 and 2019".
"Jairam Ramesh said he is taking a position based on RTI application. Where did it mention my daughter's name? The allegation that my daughter runs an illegal bar is malicious, with the intent not only to assassinate her character, but also to politically malign me," she said.
Irani also alleged that the "malicious campaign" against her was being run at the behest of the Congress leadership "namely the Gandhi family" because she "had the audacity to hold a press conference and question Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on the Rs 5,000 crore loot of the Indian treasury".
Alleging that an "illegal bar" was being run in Goa by her daughter, Congress has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi sack Irani as a minister.
