NIA probe into LeT’s activity on social media leads to fresh arrest

The case pertains to Pakistan based handlers of LeT using multiple social media platforms to recruit youngsters for sleeper cells, say sources

Kolkata, November 11

Becoming member of groups created on social media platforms by Pakistan-based terror outfit Laskar-e-Taiba proved costly for 28-year-old Sayyad M Idris belonging to Uttara Kannada district in Karnataka.

Idris was arrested by sleuths of the counter-terrorism task force National Investigation Agency (NIA) last night in connection with a case originally registered in West Bengal in March this year.

The case pertains to Pakistan based handlers of LeT using multiple social media platforms to recruit vulnerable youths for sleeper cells to propagate their ideology and for abetting and advocating terror activities.

Idris was a member of various social media groups run by LeT handlers from Pakistan to lure individuals to sleeper cells and work on terror strikes inside the country. After obtaining transit remand Idris has been flown to Kolkata for further questioning by NIA.

Earlier a woman, Tania Parvin, was arrested in connection with the case. Chargesheet was filed against in her September this year.
