Nine killed after bus catches fire

AMETHI: Nine people were killed and six others injured on Tuesday after a bus carrying 42 passengers on state transport bus board caught fire in Peeparpur area, a senior police officer said.

Amethi, April 21

Nine people were killed and six others injured on Tuesday after a bus carrying 42 passengers on state transport bus board caught fire in Peeparpur area, a senior police officer said.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when a short circuit in the engine of the roadways bus on its way to Sultanpur resulted in a fire that gutted the bus near Ramgaon village, police superintendent Heera Lal said.

Some passengers managed to escape by smashing windowpanes of the bus.

Police are current identifying those who were killed in the fire, while those injured are being treated in a hospital in Sultanpur. — PTI
