To sensitise senior citizens about intake of nutrient-rich diet daily and healthy lifestyle, the district administration is set to hold a special Nutrition Awareness Camp for the elderly in the coming days. The ageing usually brings changes in the body such as loss of muscle mass, weak bones and reduced digestive capabilities hence the nutrition becomes more important for them.
Divulging details, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said the camp would be dedicated for the senior citizens under Poshan Abhiyaan by the Department of Social Security and Development of Women and Children.
He said medical specialists such as orthopaedics, gynecologists, nutritionists, among others, would talk on various health issues in the camp and would give answers to queries. Sharma added that yoga experts and physiotherapists would also give lecture on various subjects concerning elderly.
Besides, the DC further said a painting competition, small races and games would also be part of the event. He said the directions had been issued to the department to ensure the presence of maximum number of elderly in the camp. District Programme Officer Amarjeet Singh Bhullar said the age-related diseases such as malnutrition, diabetes, high blood pressure, increased cholesterol levels and other health issues have become normal among them.
