Patiala, August 3
A day after former registrar Dr Yog Raj Sharma transferred around 70 employees and gave instructions for making changes in the office Punjabi University rejected some and put on hold other alterations.
Dr Yog Raj transferred 70 non-teaching employees of the university, including superintendents, clerks, Class IV and others, before he was relieved of the charge after he was appointed Chairman of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB).
He also allocated the charge of security and transport at the university, earlier held by Captain Gurtej Singh (retd), to other officials on the campus.
As per the information, the charge for security and transport was given to other officials in view of ‘previous acts of violence on the campus’.
Meanwhile, Dr Yog Raj’s decision was also rejected by Vice-Chancellor, Dr BS Ghuman, informed Dr Rakesh Kumar, who is overseeing the Registrar’s office work.
Security and transport employees held a protest on the campus after which changes were rejected by the VC, said university officials.
Meanwhile, the mass transfer of employees has also been put on hold. Dr Rakesh Kumar, who issued two notifications on August 1, said it was done to ensure that the work at the office was not affected.
“We have received objections from various quarters against transfers. In view of that, we have decided to put transfers on hold. A transfer mechanism will be formulated and changes will be made as per the requirement,” he added.
