A group of about 25 persons looted 298 wheat bags of the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation from a godown at Bhojowali village on Sunday night after thrashing three watchmen. On August 26, robbers had decamped with 248 wheat bags from a Punsup Godown near here.

As per the FIR registered at Dhuri Sadar police station under Sections 342, 457 and 380 of the IPC, the corporation had stored purchased wheat in a private godown. Robbers scaled the boundary wall and entered the premises. They overpowered the watchmen and tied them up. Then they brought a truck inside and loaded the wheat bags before fleeing.

“On the complaint of warehouse manager Brij Mohan, we have registered a case and started an investigation. Both incidents seem to be the handiwork of the same gang,” said ASI Avtar Singh.

In the earlier case, five watchmen of a private security agency were beaten up by robbers. One of them, Akbar Khan, succumbed to injuries. The family of the deceased, backed by the BKU Ugrahan, is demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation and a job.

“We will start an indefinite protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office from Tuesday. Akbar’s family should get compensation as he died after getting injured on duty. We will intensify our agitation if the authorities fail to fulfil our demand,” said Amrik Singh, district president, BKU Ugrahan.
