The accused is alleged to have deceitfully exchanged his land with an oblique motive and the amount deposited into his account was found to be excess than his disclosed sources, a Mohali court noted.

The allegations of the prosecution against the accused were that Rs 5,75,71,907 was received by the accused in connivance with his son Nimratdeep Singh, who was PWD Executive Engineer, and he purchased a house in Sector 20-D, Chandigarh, in 2017. This included a two-kanal house in Sector 20, Chandigarh, where former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini was the tenant. Besides, more than Rs 10 crore was found in various bank accounts of the accused and family members. The XEN, Nimratdeep Singh, was booked in September 2020 on corruption charges.
