“DGP Dinkar Gupta’s should quit on moral grounds as his comments has hurt the sentiments of the Sikhs,” said Akal Takht officiating Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, who returned from Pakistan.

It is appreciable that the DGP has apologised for his objectionable comments. He should tender his resignation morally. His comments have hurt the sentiments of the Sikhs across the globe and it is an unpardonable mistake on his part.

The Takht Jathedar along with a 12-member delegation had gone to attend the Nankana Sahib massacre anniversary programme organised by the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and the Evacuee Trust Property Board at Gurdwara Janam Asthan on February 21.

Taking a strong note of the DGP’s comments, Giani Harpreet Singh said if a Sikh could become an extremist after a six-hour visit to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur, he had spent so many days in Pakistan but never returned to be so.

“It is appreciable that the DGP had apologised for his objectionable comments. I do not insist but I believe that he should tender his resignation morally. His comments had hurt the sentiments of the Sikhs across the globe and it was an unpardonable mistake on his part to pass such remarks,” he added.

When asked about Sikh preacher Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale’s confrontation over his controversial discourses, he said, “Instead of challenging on social media, he should keep in mind the sanctity of Akal Takht and appear before the committee to clear his stance than creating confusion and feud.”
