The police have got a five-day remand of Lawrence Bishnoi, a gangster and the prime suspect in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case.

He was produced in a local court amid heavy police security on Wednesday morning.

He was taken on police remand in connection with the killing of another gangster Rana Kandowalia, who was shot dead by armed assailants at a private hospital in August last year.

He was brought here on transit remand from Mansa on June 28.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (law and order) Palwinder Singh Bhandal said Bishnoi was in custody till July 6 and the local court had extended his custody for next five days.

The investigation led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (investigation) Rashpal Singh was still under way.

Hours after getting his eight-day remand from a local court on June 28, the Amritsar Commissionerate police had shifted Bishnoi back to Kharar’s Crime Investigation Agency office, where he was earlier being interrogated in Moosewala’s murder.

“Bishnoi’s remand was still required in connection with his suspected involvement in the case of Rana Kandowalia,” he said.
