Punjab: Panel member visits Dalits after ‘bias’ complaint

Sangrur, September 16

Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes member Chandreshwar Singh Mohi on Thursday visited Lidran village to look into a complaint submitted by some Dalit families alleging discrimination in the construction of streets and drains.

Mohi directed the village panchayat to pass a resolution on completing the pending work of the street at the earliest. “We have directed the panchayat representatives and officers of the Rural Development and Panchayat Department to prevent discrimination. They have been directed to ensure eligible families got benefits of all government schemes,” he said. — TNS
