A day after a high-profile meeting of officials, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Gobind Singh Longowal on Friday visited the Sikh Reference Library.

The SGPC’s role had come under scanner when a section of media alleged that a rare handwritten manuscript of Guru Granth Sahib was sold off abroad. A controversy also arose about the authenticity and quantum of manuscripts which were returned by the Army Operation Bluestar.

Longowal said a high-level committee would soon be constituted to scrutinise the issues that concerned the historic library.

“It was a serious issue that ought to be probed thoroughly. The committee will comprise of legal experts, scholars and those who have knowledge of ancient scripts. The allegations of selling the manuscripts will be probed. We will not hesitate to take legal and Panthic action against anyone found guilty,” he said.
