The BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Gurdaspur, Sunny Deol, has been embroiled in a controversy after a Sikh delegation from Batala approached the Akal Takht, complaining that the actor has denigrated the sanctity of siropa.

Batala-based Kalgidhar Gatka Akhara activists have approached the Akal Takht seeking action against Deol who had allegedly placed the siropa, he had received during his visit to Gurdwara Dera Baba Nanak, on his feet during the roadshow in Gurdaspur on May 2. A video clip had also gone viral in this regard.

The delegation’s head, Sewadar Rachhpal Singh, who submitted the complaint with the Akal Takht secretariat said Deol had invited the ire of the Sikh community due to his blasphemous act. He alleged that despite the fact that several days had passed, high-headed Deol didn’t submit his apology when he was pointed out during his public appearance. — TNS
