Chandigarh, July 19
CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Thursday ruled out nationwide pre-poll alliance with any opposition party. He said the alliances would take place in states and the final alliance would take shape after the 2019 elections just like it happened in 2004 general elections.
Talking to mediapersons, Yechury said the 2019 election would be contested on the basis of “nitis” (policies), not “netas” (leaders).
He said the opposition parties should unite against the BJP, adding that anti-BJP votes shouldn’t get divided in the fight of various opposition parties.
He said the alliances in 2019 would be state specific. On CPM’s individual stand, he said the decision regarding elections would be taken in an upcoming meeting of the central committee of the party.
