Faridkot, May 16

In wake of the rise in Covid-19 cases and the demand for cancellation of upcoming Class XII board exams growing louder, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) has started compiling the marks obtained by students in pre-board exams in February.

In a letter to all government, government-aided, affiliated and associated schools affiliated to it, the PSEB secretary on Sunday asked schools to upload the marks obtained by Class XII students in pre-board exams on a portal of the Board before May 25.

The schools have been directed to constitute a five-member committee before uploading pre-board exam result of students on the portal. This committee will be based on principal of the school, class in-charge teacher and teacher of the relevant subject, a teacher of Mathematics, Science or English subjects. A teacher from neighbouring schools should be co-opted by the school as the external members of the committee.

This committee will be responsible for the uploading the pre-board exam result of every student on the portal and in case of delay beyond May 25 in uploading the details, the school head will be responsible, reads the letter.

In February, the State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) had conducted the pre-board examinations for all primary, upper primary, secondary and senior secondary school classes. While there was option of offline and online exam for Class I to Class VIII students, for the evaluation of Classes IX to XII students, there were only offline exams. These tests were conducted on the basis of reduced syllabus and as per the new exam pattern of the PSEB. As per this pattern, there were objective and subjective type questions.

These tests were aimed at making continuous and comprehensive evaluation of every student as there was no regular mid-term and other pre-board exams due to the pandemic. However, now the PSEB is contemplating to use this pre-board exam result for preparing the final exam result.

As the CBSE was expected to take a decision on Class XII board exams the coming week, the PSEB had also started preparations accordingly. In case, the CBSE cancelled the exams and assessed the students on the basis of pre-board exams, the PSEB would also tread the same path and the collection of pre-board exam result was aimed in this direction, said a senior officer in the PSEB.
