13 Arrested For Personation In Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: Nearly 50,000 voters out of the total electorate of 76,076 exercised their franchise in the Union Territory of Chandigarh in the one-day polling today to elect a representative to the Lok Sabha.

Chandigarh, February 19.

Nearly 50,000 voters out of the total electorate of 76,076 exercised their franchise in the Union Territory of Chandigarh in the one-day polling today to elect a representative to the Lok Sabha.

Thirteen persons were arrested on personation charge but all of them were later bailed out.

The average turn-out at 65 urban booths was better than at the 16 rural booths. In the city the voting average varied from 60  per cent to 70 per cent, while in rural areas it was about 60 per cent.

In a rural booth of Manimajra, nearly 62 per cent of the registered voters had cast their votes by about 2 p.m.  and they included a large number of women.

The result of today's polling will be declared on Tuesday evening.

The sky was over cast in the morning but there was no rain. There was brisk polling at several booths in the morning but it slumped during the day. However, the polling average slightly improved just before the close at 5 pm.
