India’s G Sathiyan progressed to the men’s singles third round at the World Table Tennis Championships with a 4-0 win over Russia’s Vladimir Sidorenko here. The world No. 37 from India defeated his 179th-ranked opponent 11-9 11-9 11-8 11-6.

Easwaran’s ton, Panchal’s 96 take India A to 308/4

Abhimanyu Easwaran scored a hundred but skipper Priyank Panchal missed out as India A reached 308/4 against South Africa A before bad light forced an early stumps to the third day’s play in the first unofficial Test here. Easwaran made 103 off 209 balls, with 16 boundaries. Panchal fell at 96. South Africa A had declared their first innings at 509/7. Prithvi Shah made 48 off 45 balls.


Solid starts for Kapur, Chikka as Asian Tour returns

Indian golfers Shiv Kapur and S Chikkarangappa carded a solid 4-under 68 each in the opening round as the Asian Tour made a return to action after 20 months with the Phuket Championship. Kapur and Chikkarangappa were tied-fifth after the opening day. Honey Baisoya, Karandeep Kochhar and Viraj Madappa were tied-10th at 3-under 69. SSP Chawrasia, Ajeetesh Sandhu and Veer Ahwalat were T-24 at 2-under. Jeev Milkha Singh and Khalin Joshi were T-42 at 1-under.
