Karnal, March 7

First woman driver of the city bus service, Archana (31), and conductor Sarita (35) are elated after receiving a message that they will be honoured by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on International Women’s Day in Gurugram on Sunday.

They have set an example by joining a male-dominated profession. A resident of Ballah village, Archana chose to be a bus driver. She was inducted days after commissioning of the city bus service in 2018.

Mother of two school-going children, she was getting cooperation of her mother-in-law and husband. “I am delighted that the Chief Minister will felicitate us. I am getting the support of my family,” she said.

“My husband has a tourist bus. I learnt to drive a bus from him and got training at Haryana Roadways. I drove a school bus and private passenger buses,” she said.

A resident of Shahpur village, Sarita too was getting the support of her family. Mother of two children, she was highly qualified — MA in Sanskrit and BEd.

“I am getting the support of my family. They take care of the household and children,” she said. “Women do not lag in any field and can do anything. I am excited that the Chief Minister will honour us,” she said.
