Dehradun, August 2
Former Congress MLA Ganesh Godiyal on Thursday alleged that the BJP was trying to harass him by sending him notices for tax evasion.
Addressing a press conference in Dehradun, Godiyal asserted that he was being specifically targeted as he had been opposing the BJP tooth and nail. The former Congress MLA said he had been filing income tax returns for the past three decades and had never evaded tax.
He alleged that he was being targeted by the Central government through the Income Tax Department. “I was the one who had opposed the Union Government’s motive to dismiss the democratically elected Congress government in Uttarkhand in 2016,” he pointed out.
Godiyal said he was also at the forefront in opposing the Centre’s much-hyped laser show in Kedarnath. “It is all due to this that now I am being targeted,” he said.
He added that he had established himself as a successful businessman.
Uttarkhand Congress president Pritam Singh was also present.
