Workshop on online open courses held

Patiala, January 15

A five-day workshop on massive online open courses (MOOCs), organised by Punjabi University’s Human Resource Development Centre, began here today. Vice-Chancellor Prof BS Ghuman inaugurated the workshop.

The workshop is the first programme organised after a tripartite agreement signed between the University Grants Commission and its centres, EMRC and HRDC situated at Punjabi University to provide enhanced sources of higher education keeping in view the advanced, participatory and futuristic learning.

Prof Ghuman said digital sources of education and ICT had brought about a revolutionary change in the system and process of education in India. “The teachers will have to adapt themselves to the emerging trends of imparting participatory and interactive mechanism of instruction through the University Grants Commission -sponsored massive online open courses,” he said.

Prof Gurmeet Maan said teachers were reluctant to produce e-programmes despite earnest efforts being made by the EMRC. He said the future belonged to the teachers who were experts in hybrid mode of teaching comprising traditional and modern systems of education.
