Making her debut as a producer in Punjabi cinema, Hema Malini brings Punjabi film ‘Mitti — Virasat Babbran Di, introducing the uncommon yet never shown history of freedom movement in Punjab. The film is based on the Babbar Akali movement in the state and will feature history of the Babbars, who sacrificed their lives for freedom.

The movie is based on true events and the story revolves around five Punjabi youngsters. The film is directed by Hriday Sheetty and stars Rabbi Kandola, Nishawn Bhullar, Japji Khaira, Jagjeet Sandhu, Kuljinder Singh Sidhu, Dheeraj Kumar, Aakanksha Sareen, Shivendra Mahal among others.

Interacting with the media, actor Rabbi Kandola said: “Breaking the usual norm of Punjabi romantic comedy routine, the film is a drama based on real life stories of bravery and selfless struggle for freedom of Punjab from the British army. It is something that the youth of Punjab needs today. We visited families of the martyrs few days ago and were shocked to see that people, who contributed a lot to the freedom struggle, are not getting the due recognition now.”

Co-star Jagjeet Sandhu said: “I have never done a film like ‘Mitti…’ before. It was a new experience with a challenge to show something different to my audience. Also, when it comes to a producer like Hema Malini and director Hriday Shetty, I did not need to think much for saying yes to the film”. The film is releasing on August 23.
