Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kamaldeep Singh Sangha conducted a meeting of officials of various departments and called upon them to curb dengue. He said not even a single case of dengue should be reported in the district this time.

To prevent the outbreak of the disease, the DC instructed the Municipal Corporation health officials that along with fogging they should issue challans to owners of those establishments where stagnant rainwater is found.

He instructed the officials to observe every Friday as dry day and clean the offices.

District Malaria Officer Dr Madan said, “In 2017, 564 cases of dengue were reported. Out of these, 222 were found positive.”

Meanwhile, after the showers on Tuesday night, the weather has become favourable for the breeding of mosquito larvae. Residents are worried about the outbreak of malaria and dengue. A number of residents have written to the Municipal Corporationto start fogging in their areas to prevent the diseases. However, the MC officials, who had been claiming to start fogging in April, have failed to start it till date due to non-availability of the required chemical.

Ashok Kumar Aggarwal, a resident who sought details about fogging from the MC, got a reply that the civic body hadn’t received the chemical from the state government till date. The fogging will begin once the Municipal Corporationreceives it, the communication reads.

“A large number of residents suffer from malaria and dengue due to the negligence of the MC and the Health Department. It is very disappointing that the MC doesn’t have chemical. The government is not concerned about the public health,” Ashok said.
