Kotwali police nab four vehicle-lifters

AMRITSAR: Kotwali police nabbed four vehicle lifters while three of their accomplice managed to escape from the spot here today.

Kotwali police nabbed four vehicle lifters while three of their accomplice managed to escape from the spot here today.

Among those arrested were identified as Sadha Singh, Gurvinder Singh, Shamsher Singh and Kulwant Singh, all residents of Patti Tehsil, Tarn Taran. Those who escaped from spot, include Gursahib Singh, Jugraj Singh and Malkeet Singh. Raids were being conducted to nab the culprits, said the police authorities.

The police recovered three motorcycles from their possession. A case under Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC has been registered against the culprits.

Sanjiv Sharma, SHO, Kotwali police station, said the police received a tip off that the accused were coming towards Hall Gate side from Sultanwind Gate and were involved in vehicle lifting. He said a naka was laid where the police saw seven persons coming on three motorcycles.

He said when the police party signalled them to stop, three persons later identified as Gursahib, Jugraj and Malkeet, who were riding a Bullet motorcycle, fled from the spot leaving behind the two-wheeler. The remaining four accused were intercepted by the police party and further investigations were under progress after taking them on police remand, he added.
