Rain slows down campaigning

Unpredicted rain and a dip in the mercury have proved to be a hurdle for political leaders in campaigning for the upcoming MC poll. The elections to the Municipal Corporation, Amritsar, will be held on December 17.

Chilly winds and uncertain rainfall have slow down the pace of aggressive campaigning of candidates.

The candidates got only few days for campaigning as the State Election Commission announced the elections on December 1.

Only three days are left when the voters will elect their representatives in 85 wards, but a sudden change in the climate has confined the candidates and their supporters to their places.

Unfavorable climatic conditions have halted the door-to-door campaign and candidates are preferring indoor meetings with voters and workers.

They are keeping a close watch on the weather forecast and are hopeful that the climate will improve in the upcoming couple of days.

Raman Kumar, son of a woman candidate, said, “It is true that unpleasant climate conditions have disturbed our schedule and campaigning plans. Candidates already have limited time for campaigning. Now, the weather has restricted their movement.” 

“I have tried my level best to campaign efficiently in such an adverse situation,” said another candidate.  Besides candidates, esthetic supporters are also facing a tough time. 

“Initially, we found people basking in the sun in streets. No one preferred to stay inside. I pray for clear weather conditions so that my candidate can meet the voters without any obstruction,” said Ravi, a supporter of an Independent candidate. 

Mann, Joshi campaign for candidates 

Sangrur MP and state president of the Aam Adami Party Bagwant Mann addressed several elections meeting in the city. Mann urged the residents to defeat the Congress and SAD in the MC poll. He appealed to the residents to vote for the AAP candidates and said they were able to address their issues. 

Meanwhile, former Minister for Local Bodies Anil Joshi campaigned for BJP candidate Advocate Preeti Taneja at Rose Avenue in Ward 9. 

He urged the residents to support Taneja for the area’s development.
