The Amritsar Vikas Manch (AVM) has criticised the agreement signed between the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) and the MC and demanded immediate removal of century-old clubs from Company Bagh (Ram Bagh) premises.

In the recent hearing at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the MC and the ASI had submitted copies of the agreement.

Principal Kulwant Singh Ankhi, patron of the AVM, said they did not agree with the agreement and demanded removal of the three clubs from the historical Company Bagh in five years’ time.

“Around 20 years ago, the AVM had filed a writ petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. In the petition the AVM had prayed for the removal of three clubs from the historical Ram Bagh garden. A few years ago the Amritsar Improvement Trust had allocated plots to these clubs in a colony developed by the AIT. The present status of that land is uncertain. We demand that clubs be removed from the Ram Bagh without any delay so that the sanctity of the historical garden, which was established by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the name of Sri Guru Ramdas must be maintained.”
