Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh visited the Municipal Corporation (MC) office and held a meeting with the newly-elected Mayor and others here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu apprised the Chief Minister of the financial crunch being faced by the corporation. Rintu presented a report of works needed to be undertaken immediately so as to improve the condition of cleanliness in the holy city.

He stated that the city required five super suction machines, five jetting machines, 10 medium goods carriers to transport rubble, two large trucks for anti-encroachment drives, five mechanical sweeping machines, 50 large smart bins, bio-compactor machines, 160 e-rickshaws to lift waste from narrow streets, and containers. Rintu said that an estimated Rs 210 crore was required to efficiently run the cleanliness plan.

Capt announced a grant of Rs 100 crore for the MC. Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was also present, said he would vouch for more funds for the MC.

Lok Sabha member Gurjit Singh Aujla, MLAs OP Soni, Raj Kumar Verka, Sunil Dutti, Inderbir Singh Bolaria, Dharambir Agnihotri and MC Commissioner Sonali Giri were also present.
