Wife, in-laws booked for thrashing NRI

AMRITSAR: The Jandiala police has booked wife and in-laws of an NRI for allegedly thrashing him.

The Jandiala police has booked wife and in-laws of an NRI for allegedly thrashing him. The victim, identified as Gurpreet Singh Kaler, who originally hailed from Nathuana village in Jandiala Guru was admitted to hospital.

Among those booked include Navjot Singh, son of Sukhbir Singh, his sister Ranbir Kaur and three unidentified persons, all residents of Bohriwala Chowk, Tarn Taran. A case under Sections 323, 324, 452 and 34 of the IPC has been registered in this regard. Martial dispute is stated to be the reason behind the incident.

Gurpreet stated to the police that he worked in a foreign country and was married to Ranbir Kaur around four years ago. He said after marriage he again went abroad. His wife did not enjoy cordial relations with his parents, he added.

He returned on December 23, 2016. Soon after his return, Ranbir Kaur went back to her parents. Kaler said on December 31, he brought her back but, 20-days later she again left home and returned to her parents.

He said on February 13, his wife came and unlocked the almirah and tried to forcibly take away the jewellery and garments. Kaler tried to pacify her and stopped from doing so. However, she left home in an aggressive manner and returned half-an-hour later along with the other accused. They challenged and attacked Kaler leaving him injured. They also took away the bag containing jewellery and garments.

Investigating officer Tarsem Singh said no arrests had been made so far as the case was under investigation.
